Actors' Playhouse Hosts Opening Night Gala For
The Sound of Music
(Coral
Gables, Fl) - The evening of Friday, November 22nd at
Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre was one to remember.
The Coral Gables theatre hosted an opening night gala
for its Main stage production of Rodgers' & Hammerstein's
most beloved musical, leaving more than just the hills
alive with The Sound of Music.
The 600 VIP Guests were, initially, greeted by a Bacardi
catered reception as an instrumental version of the popular
musical's score resounded throughout downtown Coral Gables
from the bell tower located in newly constructed Alhambra
Towers, a courtesy of show sponsor The Allen Morris Company.
Once
all were seated Barbara S. Stein, the Executive Producing
Director of Actors' Playhouse, gave a curtain speech in
which she acknowledged a few of the many distinguished
friends of Actors' Playhouse in the audience including:
Susan Best of the Adams Foundation, Greg Barnes of the
Bill Ussery Motors, Azmat Syad and Renata Tilkian of Lufthansa
Airlines, Senator Gwen Margolis, and German Consul General
Dr. Volker Anding. Mrs. Stein then went on to graciously
thank the show's sponsors in presenting each of them with
a commemorative plaque. Assisting in the presentation
on stage was the newly crowned Junior Orange Bowl Queen
Eliza Berse.
Following
the show, the 600 guests spilled-out on to closed off
Salzedo where the party was just beginning. Guests
were treated to a truly exquisite dinner prepared by Opening
Night sponsor and Miracle Theatre neighbor Ortanique On
the Mile. Roxy Productions provided music, entertainment
and karaoke for the delighted crowd as they mingled, enjoying
the festivities. The guests were even treated to
an encore presentation performed by Coral Gables Mayor
Donald Slesnick and anchored by Commissioners Ralph Cabrera
and Maria Anderson. The singing trio, unheralded
for their musical talent, left the crowd "breathless"
with a karaoke rendition of "The Sound of Music
