IT
HAD TO BE A CUBAN
BY
VICKY MELERO
To
my sadness I often hear the expression, and the
worse part is that it had to be a Cuban.
Why? Many of us forget our roots and assimilate to foreign
cultures, and try to look over the head to those who
they think are less than them, dirtying their paths
instead of feeling proud of their own people.
Nothing can hurt me more than listening to some people
talking bad about our own, and even worse, if the one
who is talking is one of us. Like the proverb says there
is no worse chip than the one that comes from the same
tree.
And I ask myself, why? Our wine might be sour, but it
is our wine. We should work together to improve the
situation not to destroy it. It is true that everywhere
in the planet we are going to find goood and bad, but
we should always try to make it better.
Lets get together to improve our people, and to
all of our own critics, lets forget about destructive
criticism and start loving more, and feeling prouder
of our own.
We should teach our children to love their roots, just
like we have learned to love this country which opened
its arms to welcome us and which is also a part of us.
